Nintendo continues to flourish with strong Switch sales

The latest financial results for Nintendo show a healthy profit, as the Switch's Pokémon game is slated for "2018 or later".

The Nintendo Switch started out strong, seeing many issues in terms of keeping units on the shelves in the first months of release. Nintendo said it sold nearly 2 million units of the Switch during the quarter. That's around a third of the 13.5 million Wii U consoles Nintendo sold in 5 years. However, all of it has helped pave the way for Nintendo to sell through 4.70 million SKUs from March 3rd to June 30th. However we guess gamers can take comfort in knowing that at least a Pokemon game for the Switch is in development, so until then you guys will just have to remain patient about it. Demand for the Switch has been fueled by mainstay franchises like Mario Kart and Zelda.

On the digital side of the business, Nintendo said digital sales of packaged software and downloadable content for Switch "showed steady growth", with total digital sales increasing 41 per cent year-on-year to ¥11bn.

Nintendo posted an operating profit of 16.21bn yen ($144.95 million; £111.39 million) for the first quarter. Indeed, Nintendo's new fighting game outsold The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which shifted another 1.16m units worldwide.

Pence Breaks Tie, Senate Votes To Begin Debating ACA Replacement
Some Republicans want him to offer his latest draft, and he probably will if he thinks he may have the votes to pass it. Before voting began, a group of protesters shouted "kill the bill'" and "shame" from the Senate's galleries.

Ultimately, we'll find out if the Nintendo Switch will sink or swim on the market when supply will meet demand during July and August.

For the older handheld device 3DS, Nintendo sold 950,000 3DS units during the quarter, a slight increase from a year earlier.

The Switch is a new kind of machine for Nintendo, which allows for playing both at home and on-the-go. I'm intrigued to see the figures for the West as Splatoon 2 hits its first full week of release tomorrow.
