Swiss chainsaw attack suspect arrested after manhunt

Police in Switzerland said they have issued an global arrest warrant in the manhunt for Franz Wrousis, the chainsaw-wielding suspect accused of injuring five people.

Mr Wrousis, who is said to have lived in the nearby woods, allegedly attacked two people in an insurance office.

Suspect Franz Wrousis, 51, has two previous convictions for weapons offenses and no fixed residence, authorities said.

Wrousis fled the scene and was caught on camera carrying a black bag and a rucksack that likely contain the chainsaw and possibly other weapons, the 20Minuten website said, quoting Schaffhausen police.

Five people were hurt in the attack which police said was not "a terrorist act".

The injured included one employee of the insurance company who suffered serious wounds, AFP reported, citing Schaffhausen police.

Police have said they believe Wrousis specifically targeted CSS, and was a customer of the company.

A CCTV photograph which police say shows Franz Wrousis carrying a chainsaw on the morning of the attack.

He didn't elaborate or say where they were committed, but said Wrousis has no previous record in the small northern canton (state) of Schaffhausen, near the German border. They said they had identified the attacker, but did not name him, describing him in a statement appealing for help from the public as bald, unkempt and around six feet three inches tall. None of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries, the police said. They also put out an global arrest warrant.

In a statement, police warned "the suspect is unsafe", but said it was unclear whether he still had the chainsaw.

A local shop owner told newspaper Blick that a man was walking the streets with a chainsaw, causing panic among pedestrians in the center of town.

Police released old photos of Wrousis standing among trees in a green T-shirt and black jeans. Police found a minivan he was believed to have been driving shortly after the attack, and searched the region near the German border with helicopters and sniffer dogs.
