New bill with sanctions against Russian Federation presented in US House of Representatives

President Donald Trump on Friday ramped up pressure on the Senate to pass its Obamacare replacement, spoke with Saudi King Salman about the dispute between Qatar and four Arab countries and returned to the us from Paris after meeting French President Emmanuel Macron. Just as Democrats were able to block Republican amendments during the first two years of the Obama administration, numerous Democratic amendments - and some prickly Republican ones - are tossed out of the NDAA every year. It was revealed that the U.S. energy industry has been lobbying against the bill and some Republican House members, particularly from oil-producing states, have said they might want changes.

"All they've got to do is send it over here", Corker said.

A new package of economic sanctions on Russian Federation and Iran unacceptably constrains the president's authority, the White House says, as Democrats complain that the Trump administration is trying to weaken the penalties.

Peskov's statement comes in the wake of US President Donald Trump's remarks that Russian President Vladimir Putin might have been "happier" with former US presidential candidate Hilary Clinton had she won the election.

The remarks in Paris during a joint news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron came even though Trump's own Federal Bureau of Investigation pick has said authorities should be advised of requests to meet with foreign individuals during a campaign and even after Donald Trump Jr. said he would rethink his own conduct in agreeing to the meeting in the first place.

The US has leveled multiple sets of sanctions on Russian Federation in recent years.

During an off-camera briefing Wednesday, White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said: "I think Democrats are trying to play political games".

The previous bill called for imposing "sanctions with respect to Iran in relation to Iran's ballistic missile programme, support for acts of worldwide terrorism, and violations of human rights, and for other purposes".

Friday's announcement is the latest effort by Democrats to get answers on Russia's influence on the Trump administration. He eventually agreed to the fix, but urged the House not to weaken the legislation amid reports that administration officials were expressing discomfort with the bill's effect on executive authority. The section of the bill the administration dislikes has strong bipartisan backing. The Senate-passed sanctions bill would prevent Trump from returning the compounds without congressional consent.

A Treasury spokesman told CNNMoney that the agency "takes responsiveness to congressional requests very seriously and is committed to providing useful and appropriate responses to requests from Congressional members".

"Instead of defending the integrity of American democracy, instead of holding the Trump White House accountable for its complicity, instead of showing Russian Federation that there will be consequences, the House Republican majority does nothing".

But weakening that provision substantially could provoke resistance from Republicans and Democrats. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, opposed the bill, which also slaps Tehran with new sanctions.

"Republicans in Congress should stop hiding from the truth and stop hiding the truth from the American people", House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said. And that could leave Congress at least at an impasse that, if it extends to the August recess, would mean that it could be months before any sanctions measures against Russian Federation or North Korea proceed.

Two days later, the Senate approved the bill slapping sanctions on Russian Federation and Iran. Republicans delayed their August recess to make more progress on getting the votes necessary for passage. How soon will depend on how quickly a dispute can be resolved over a revision to the bill made after the Senate passed it.

The most recent setback has come from Democratic opposition to a change that would limit the minority's ability to force a vote on a resolution of disapproval should the Trump administration decide to reverse sanctions. That authority, according to the revision, will rest exclusively with Ryan. It was defeated in a party-line vote.
