Strike suspended at Philadelphia International Airport

Service Employees International Union Vice President Rob Hill said that last-minute talks between workers and American Airlines were rekindled, resulting in the union temporarily pulling the plug on the strike while discussions continue.

The 700 employees - which include wheelchair attendents, skycaps and cabin cleaners - work at JFK, LaGuardia and Newark Airports.

They were threatening to walk off the job over what they call unfair labor practices by the company PrimeFlight.

"The company is telling them they'll be fired for organizing or the company will change the schedules of those involved in leadership", said Amity Paye, a spokeswoman for 32BJ SEIU, which is helping the group to form a union.
