South Korea : Country to offer N.Korea treaty for denuclearisation

There's still no US ambassador to Seoul and some key posts remain empty to advise on East Asia policy at the Pentagon and State Department.

For Moon, the trip - his first overseas - is a chance to personally bring South Korea's voice to the chorus of those trying to influence U.S. policy on North Korea. The left-leaning Moon, elected in May after his predecessor, the conservative Park Geun-hye, was ousted for corruption, has always been an advocate for dialogue with North Korea. The Trump administration is particularly concerned with the development of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) created to target the US.

Many trade experts have blamed the weak South Korean economy, which has depressed demand for imports, but critics say non-tariff barriers have limited United States penetration of the South Korean market, particularly for automobiles. Trump will likely look to pave a path toward the renegotiation of the US free trade deal with South Korea, which he described in April as "unacceptable".

President Moon Jae-in has long advocated engagement with North Korea to address its nuclear weapons development. Beijing says the system is a security threat and has retaliated against major South Korean businesses.

During Ms. Park's term, South Korean news media reported that South Korean and United States special forces had been training to "decapitate" the North Korean government in the event of renewed conflict on the Korean Peninsula, where an armistice has kept peace since the Korean War, which lasted from 1950 to 1953.

He's watching whether the key missile defense program and flashpoint for China will even be part of Moon's and Trump's joint statement. The group, which owns South Korea's largest mobile carrier and the country's second-largest semiconductor company, said it will import American liquefied natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas starting in 2020 to help diversify its energy imports. In fact, South Korea has spent an "enormous amount of money to help host USA troops in their country including through things like. the new base, south of Seoul, which 92 percent of that cost was shouldered by South Korea".

South Koreans will be looking to see how Moon does if things go off script with the off-the-cuff style of Trump.

Donald Trump Blames Obama For Russian Election Hacks
The DNC also failed to provide access to its servers to FBI investigators - a fact the GOP seized on Wednesday morning.

But the real real test will be how the two leaders deal with North Korea.

Park was dismissed in December by the South Korean National Assembly, and its immunity was lifted in March. Abe, together with U.S. President Donald Trump, is expected to call on Moon at the G-20 to stick with South Korea's allies.

Pyongyang now wants Seoul to hand over "traitor Park" and the former intelligence chief because "they committed disgusting state-sponsored terrorism against the supreme leadership" of North Korea.

"I think the trade is well balanced between the two countries through the deal struck during the Roh administration, and a subsequent revision based on a renegotiation", Moon said.

It's the preconditions for negotiations that drive a wedge between the two parties.

USA military options for North Korea have recently been updated and are ready to be presented to President Donald Trump if Pyongyang conducts an underground nuclear or ballistic missile test that indicates the regime has made a significant progress towards developing a weapon that could attack the United States, two US military officials told CNN.
