Varadkar and Trump 'look forward to meeting'

US President Donald Trump today congratulated Ireland's new Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, who earlier this month became the country's youngest ever and first openly gay leader.

The call comes as the POTUS has been given the green light to introduce his travel ban.

"We have so many people from Ireland in this country", Trump remarked during the calI.

The ban has been reinstated until autumn.

They also discussed the Northern Ireland peace process.

An invitation for Trump to visit Ireland, extended by Varadkar's predecessor Enda Kenny was not mentioned during the call, it is understood.

Blac Chyna Looks More Than OK After Getting Rear-Ended
However, it was the singer's friend Charmeika "Paige" Addison who was behind the wheel - Chyna wasn't even in the vehicle at all. Chyna posted photos and videos of her night to social media, showing her fans that the accident didn't shake her up.

During the conversation, some of which was recorded by RTÉ's Washington Correspondent & US Bureau Chief Caitriona Perry, and can be seen here, Trump also talked about his connections with Irish people based in the US.

The Taoiseach said numerous illegal Irish in the USA had originally travelled on legitimate documentation but for a variety of reasons now needed to regularise their situation.

The "introductory" phone call between the two took place on Tuesday.

In reply Mr Varadkar said the border is currently now an issue socially or economically - but the future is uncertain because of Brexit. The White House said later that Trump invited Varadkar to visit for St. Patrick's Day next year.

Mr. Varadkar said that he will raise issues such as climate change, LGBT rights, and immigrant rights on a future US visit.
