Boeing Shows Off New 737 At Paris Air Show

Boeing said it had more than 240 orders and commitments from at least 10 customers for the new 737. The agreement, not yet finalized, includes purchase rights for an additional 50 aircraft, Boeing said.

A day after Boeing formally launched the MAX 10, the largest member of the new single-aisle jet family seating up to 230 passengers, it announced a further 153 orders for the airplane. Boeing said 16 customers worldwide placed orders for the MAX 10. Established carriers are also swapping out older, less efficient jets for new versions and low-priced airlines are rapidly expanding their fleets. Airbus, which has been talking with airlines for years about improvements to the aircraft to take advantage of the latest cost-saving technologies, slowed down production of the aircraft in 2016.

India's SpiceJet airlines immediately announced it would buy 40 737 MAX airplanes.

Boeing's total somewhat surpasses Airbus' as it counts aircrafts with 90 seats and above while its French rival starts at 100 seats. The 737 MAX 10 attracted 147 new orders and commitments.

The US planemaker continued to rack up orders at the Paris Airshow for a new version of its best-selling 737 aircraft, which was launched amid a flurry of deals.

The order from United Continental Holdings Inc. gives the new plane a crucial initial boost and makes the Chicago-based carrier the biggest buyer of the model.

Okay also signed a memorandum of understanding for five 787-9 Dreamliners.

The 737 MAX is the fastest-selling aircraft in Boeing history, accumulating more than 3,700 orders from 87 customers worldwide.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes President Kevin McAllister poses with a model of 737 MAX 10, during the 52nd Paris Air Show at Le Bourget Airport near Paris, June 20, 2017.
