Court says Ivanka Trump must testify in knock-off shoes suit

Presidential daughter Ivanka Trump will have to sit for a deposition in a lawsuit claiming her company copied the design of a shoe called "Wild Thing" from a competitor, a federal judge in Manhattan ruled late Friday.

Aquazzura filed a lawsuit in June 2016 against Trump, her company IT Collection LLC and its footwear licensee Marc Fisher Holdings LLC, alleging that Trump's Hettie shoe is "virtually identical" to its Wild Thing design.

Last week, Trump's attorneys requested US District Judge Katherine Forrest to prevent Trump from submitting a deposition in the case.

Forrest wrote that Ivanka Trump's deposition is necessary because she was a company executive during the time the shoes were made and had "high-level, authoritative, personal involvement" in the company.

The Florence, Italy-based company sued President Trump's daughter past year, saying her Hettie shoe was a "virtually identical" knockoff of its popular Wild Thing Shoe, including almost the same color, shape and tassel on the heel.

Number of global displaced up to 65.6 million last year
People internally displaced are defined as still living in their home country, but have nowhere to actually live. A reported 39,000 people are now living in the new community, according to the Danish Refugee Council.

Ivanka Trump who employs a number of factories in China for making shoes for her line has already been involved in a scandal related to her business. According to Bloomberg, Ivanka couldn't escape questions in the lawsuit because Ivanka is too busy as a White House "high-ranking government official" to answer such questions.

Ivanka Trump's footwear company is accused of ripping off designs from rival Aquazzura Italia SRL.

. This time, they're seeking unspecified damages.

"Ms. Trump's public statements regarding active and comprehensive brand management lead to a reasonable inference that the shoe at issue would not have been released without her approval".

The deposition will run no longer than two hours and will be given before the end of October, per Forrest's order. However, Aquazzura's legal team argued that her testimony was necessary given her past public statements about heading brand Ivanka's operations and approving designs.

"Defendants have copied almost every detail of Plaintiff's well-known and coveted Wild Thing Shoe, from the shape and silhouette to the fringe covering the toes, to the tassel on the heel", lawyers for Aquazzura wrote in the lawsuit.
