Uber dismisses over 20 employees after law firm's probe

The report of the firings came from an attorney at the Perkins Coie law firm, which Uber hired to assist in a broader sexual harassment investigation at the company and which made a presentation at the company's weekly staff meeting Tuesday. Sexual harassment, discrimination, and bullying were cited as reasons for the employees' dismissal, The Los Angeles Times reported.

Uber has fired 20 employees stemming from a recent inquiry into an alleged culture of harassment at the ride-hailing company.

Most of the complaints came from employees based at the San Francisco headquarters, the company said. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The company is not commenting on the findings of the report from Perkins Coie, which was hired after former Uber engineer Susan Fowler a year ago alleged that she was sexually harassed, and her complaints disregarded by the company's human resources department.

The blog painted a picture of an unprofessional company, which was widely shared and prompted chief executive Travis Kalanick to launch the probe.

In total, 215 claims were investigated by Perkins Coie, with 100 resulting in no action, a source told NBC News.

The firings stem from an investigation by Perkins Coie, an global law firm that often works with startups and Fortune 500 companies. The company has also implemented a system to log and track all employee complaints as well as revised its employee handbook. "But this is not a systemic problem", Huffington had told CNN.

On Monday the company said it had hired Harvard Business School professor Frances Frei as senior vice president of Leadership and Strategy, reporting to Kalanick. Uber has also been blamed for having a seriously handicapped management structure wherein 3,000 of its 12,000 employees were in management position with many of them having no prior experience.

The Perkins Coie probe is separate from one being done by former Attorney General Eric Holder. Uber is also seeking a chief operating officer.
