Playboy model pleads no contest for post of nude woman

Mathers was publicly condemned by social media users and prosecutors charged her.

A Playboy centerfold who ignited a backlash of criticism when she secretly snapped a photo of a naked 71-year-old woman in a locker room and posted it online mocking the woman's body entered a plea of no contest Wednesday in court to resolve the criminal charge.

Mathers had been globally criticised after posting the photo of the unsuspecting woman on social media platform Snapchat with the denigrating caption: "If I can't unsee this then you can't either".

Mathers lost modeling jobs and work as a radio host, her lawyers said.

"She really apologizes from the bottom of her heart for what happened", he said.

On the subject of changing her plea from "not guilty" to "no contest", Cole noted: "I think she wanted to be done with this and accept responsibility for what occurred".

Dani Mathers posted this photo of herself mocking a naked, 70-year-old woman at her gym on Snapchat last year.

The 2015 Playmate of the Year was roundly criticized for the so-called body shaming incident.

Defense lawyer Dana Cole argued unsuccessfully that the charge should be dismissed because the woman in the photo can't easily be identified.

As part of her plea deal, she will be on three years of probation and can not snap photos of people or post them online without their permission.

"This was a very important case to me - as a father, as a son, as someone who recognizes the damage that body-shaming can do", City Attorney Mike Feuer said. She also must serve three years' probation.

Mathers deleted the post and apologized, saying that she only meant to send the picture to a friend rather than share it with her thousands of followers.
