Facebook Messenger design update brings tabs to the home screen

Last but not least, a new simple visual clue, a red dot, will help users catch up if they've missed anything.

The update relocates Groups from the bottom navigation bar to the a tab at the top of the screen, making it a less prominent feature in the redesigned app. Switching to the Active tab makes it easier to see who's online in one long vertically scrollable list.

Now at the top of your Messenger home screen, you'll find new tabs for your Messages, groups and a tab showing everyone who's Active, which just reminds us of MSN Messenger. This is where I complain again: I wish Facebook would let people hide or get rid of the functions of Messenger they'll never use. You can download Messenger from the App Store for free. With the update, however, the button is back to a normal size, and is nicely lined up with its neighbors. So, Facebook is giving Messenger a revamp.

The UN agency said that DR Congo, which is also rife with violence, as of end March was hosting 103,000 Central African refugees. A series of attacks in remote areas this past week have forced more than 15 000 people from their homes.

In a release announcing the update, a spokesperson for Facebook said: 'Messenger is about people and how you connect with the people you care about - whether that's chatting with a group via text and stickers, sharing your Messenger Day, making calls via video or voice call, or interacting by playing a game. According to Facebook, the new changes will be included in the upcoming update that will be rolled out worldwide on iOS and Android sometime this week. Now they will be for Home, Calls, Camera, People and Games (which replaces Groups).

This is a better design aesthetic to be sure, but it also makes the Camera functionality feel less like Messenger's leading feature, like the larger button did before.
