Trade order, campaign rally on Trump's 100th day

President Donald Trump is marking his 100th day in office by talking tough on trade.

"A large group of Hollywood actors and Washington media are consoling each other in a hotel ballroom in our nation's capital right now", he told the crowd in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The White House Correspondents' Dinner, a tradition since 1921, is an annual event that usually features good-spirited humour between the President and correspondents covering the White House. "And I could not possibly be more thrilled than to be more than 100 miles away from Washington's swamp, spending my evening with all of you and with a much, much larger crowd and much better people". Mr. Trump tweeted five times daily on average, totalling 510 tweets as President. But in the age of Trump, I know that you guys have to be more flawless now more than ever.

"As for the other guy, I think he's in Pennsylvania because he can't take a joke".

The president arrived in the Keystone State Saturday afternoon and made an unexpected trip to a local wheelbarrow factory with Vice President Mike Pence. "My administration has been delivering every single day for the great citizens of our country", Trump said in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The threat from North Korea, getting a health care bill passed and possibly renegotiating the Paris climate accord were among the big talking points of the almost one-hour speech. "I mean, we'll see".

Mnuchin also said Monday that this tax overhaul package was this administration's version of a jobs bill , Bloomberg reports. This would be a huge giveaway to the rich, despite Mnuchin's earlier promises that the rich wouldn't get a tax cut.

While Trump's raucous rally was straight out of his campaign playbook, he also did something he rarely does - call out U.S. congressmen from Pennsylvania who were in attendance by name.

"It's been a tough hundred days, but America has faced awesome challenges before and we've resisted them.and we will be resisting this challenge, together if we keep our eyes focused, our motivations high and our efforts", said Senator Daylin Leach, (D) who serves Montgomery and Delaware Counties. "And I'll be so angry at Congressman (Mike) Kelly and Congressman (Tom) Marino and all of our congressmen in this room if we don't get that damn thing passed quickly". With that backdrop he signed an executive order directing the Commerce Department and the US trade representative to conduct a study of USA trade agreements. He is the first president to miss the event since 1981 when then-President Ronald Reagan was absent while recovering from an assassination attempt.

Trump made the announcement that he would not attend the dinner back in February and revealed last week that he would instead hold a rally in Harrisburg at the same time as the dinner.

But no matter where he was, the spotlight was on Trump on Saturday since the day also marked a significant milestone in the career of a president.

On Friday, Mr. Trump became the first President in 34 years to address a convention of the National Rifle Association, the lobby of American gun manufacturers and users that spent more than $30 million for his campaign last year. Though the White House created a website touting its accomplishments of the first 100 days, Trump has tried to downplay the importance of the marker, perhaps out of recognition that many of his campaign promises have gone unfulfilled. "We'll build the wall people, don't even worry about it", he said.
