Trump makes puzzling claim about Andrew Jackson, Civil War

Jackson died in 1845, which is 16 years before the Civil War began.

Based on Jackson's history in office, and the additional crises that erupted between North and South over the next 30 years, it's unlikely that Jackson would have been able or would have even wanted to stop the Civil War. Trump expressed admiration for Jackson, which he has done before, but then went out into left field. "He was a very tough person, but he had a big heart", Trump told Sirius XM.

President Trump says he doesn't understand why the Civil War could not have been prevented.

Sure, thinking President Trump ever watched a cool cult musical is a bit of a stretch. People don't realize, you know, the Civil War, if you think about it, why?

Trump's analysis quickly drew criticism for its apparent historical illiteracy about Jackson's life and tenure in the White House or the causes of the Civil War.

President Donald Trump on Monday questioned why the Civil War occurred: "Why could that one not have been worked out?"

Trump's comments on Jackson are baffling for a number of reasons.

The Dolphins may have gotten one five years ago when they added Ryan Tannehill in the first round of the 2012 draft. The 49ers drafted their second defensive player in the round, Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster, at No. 31.

Trump's appeal has drawn comparisons to Andrew Jackson, which he accepts.

President Donald Trump always ends his self-reverential rallies with the Rolling Stone song "You Can't Always Get What You Want". "He said there's no reason for this".

In March he visited the Hermitage, Jackson's home in Nashville, Tennessee, which was partly built by slaves, and was pictured saluting at the former president's grave.

But mostly it's just a completely freaky claim that, once again, suggests a president who speaks loudly and confidently about things he simply doesn't understand.

Andrew Jackson is not an American hero in my book.

- lucy liu bot (@AZARASHl) May 1, 2017@lachlan @KatyTurNBC This sounds like a 3rd grade paper on Andrew Jackson. Trump said in February that Douglass "is an example of somebody who's done an incredible job and is getting recognized more and more, I notice".

Trump, during an African-American history month event, seemed to imply that the 19th century abolitionist Frederick Douglass was still alive. He was a swashbuckler, but when his wife died, you know, he visited her grave every day.
