Bill O'Reilly is out at Fox News

O'Reilly on Wednesday blamed his ouster on "unfounded claims" hours after Fox News announced his departure. O'Reilly could be totally innocent but when advertisers abandon ship, it's over. Last July, Fox News's then chairman, Roger Ailes, was forced out amid allegations that he sexually harassed numerous women.

Jane Hall, a journalism professor at American University in Washington and former Fox News contributor called it a "significant moment" in dealing with allegations of sexual harassment, both at Fox News and in general.

NY [U.S.A.], April 20 (ANI): Following his dismissal from position as a prime-time host on Fox News, Bill O'Reilly has said that it was tremendously disheartening that he had to part ways with Fox due to "completely unfounded claims".

"Afterwards, O'Reilly simply said "let's get out of here". He thanked his viewers and noted the success Fox had achieved.

O'Reilly's exit, which was first reported by NY magazine, follows that of former Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes, who was forced to resign in July after being accused of sexual misconduct by a number of women, including former anchor Gretchen Carlson.

Tucker Carlson will replace O'Reilly in the 8 p.m. ET time slot. "The Five" will jump from 5 to 9 p.m.

Rounding out the Fox prime-time lineup, "Hannity" remains at 10 p.m. EDT.

Bill O'Reilly has lost his job at Fox News Channel following reports that five women had been paid millions of dollars to keep quiet about harassment allegations.

Fox News Channel's parent company fired Bill O'Reilly on Wednesday following an investigation into harassment allegations, bringing a stunning end to cable news' most popular program and one that came to define the bravado of his network over 20 years.

He had been scheduled to return from a vacation next Monday.

The popular host was in St. Peter's Square with his son for Pope Francis' weekly address, and afterwards stood in a VIP line to shake hands with the holy leader.

It marks a stunning end to a near ideal marriage between a pugnacious personality and network.

"The O'Reilly Factor" has been the most watched programme on Fox News and was coming off the highest-rated first quarter in its history, averaging 4 million viewers, according to Nielsen.

O'Reilly, who has been off the air on holidays since April 11 and has been denied a chance to say goodbye to his Fox viewers, did so via a statement.

Star cable news anchor Bill O'Reilly will not be resuming his position as host of Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor", announced 21st Century Fox on Wednesday.

By April 2017, O'Reilly and Fox had paid out more than $13 million to five of these women, who claimed they were victims of lewd comments, verbal abuse or unwanted sexual advances. Ailes has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. 21st Century Fox leaders Rupert Murdoch and his sons Lachlan and James said in a memo to Fox staff that their decision to ax O'Reilly came following an "extensive review" into the charges. On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal, a newspaper owned by the Murdochs, wrote that the company was preparing to cut ties with O'Reilly.
