Adidas sorry for email saying 'you survived' Boston Marathon

The athletic wear company sent an email blast to customers Tuesday congratulating them on "surviving" Monday's 26.2-mile race.

The insensitive line, understandably, got online backlash considering three years ago two homemade bombs went off near the Boston Marathon finish line that left three dead and 144-plus injured. They also sent an email to the runners with the subject "we are sorry".

The company "deeply" apologized for what it said was a mistake.

"At that stage, when you're running in an worldwide event like the Boston Marathon you're there to get the best time you can, especially when you're running at Terry's level".

According to news.com, at least 2 survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing participated in the race this year.

Of course, the company did not mean to conjure up the memory of the Boston Marathon bombing, but the damage was done.

Besides long runs and various shorter jaunts throughout the weeks during the year, McGrath said that she practiced running the route in her head and read "everything" she could to prepare for her first marathon.

Many runners reacted calmly to the Adidas email and apology. Based on the data from Running USA, female runners make up fifty seven percent of participants in running events in 2015. She told NESN that she always thinks that a 20-year-old girl who simply wanted to run has inspired and created opportunities for other women. "It became the best thing in my life", she said.
